Chris Shurilla, Sr. Pastor

Chris and his wife, Nancy, are originally from Southern New England where they were married in 1991.  They have two grown children, one daughter-in-law, and are still raising three younger children at home. In addition, they are eagerly awaiting the arrival of their first grandchild in February 2016!  Before getting saved at the age of 27, Chris worked in Aerospace Manufacturing and had obtained two secular degrees; one in Mechanical Engineering and then a second in Business Management.

In 2001, he and his family were attending Heritage Baptist Church in Wallingford, Connecticut where he was called to preach under Pastor Thomas Bish.

In 2002 they moved to Illinois in order to attend Providence Baptist College, a ministry of Northwest Bible Baptist Church. After graduating with a Pastoral Theology degree in 2005, they remained active, working in various ministries such as Reformers Unanimous, Adult Soul Winning and Adult Sunday School Class as Team Leaders.

In July of 2009, God called Chris and his family to Southern Illinois for the purpose of starting a church. While putting the start-up plans together, they attended Lafayette Bible Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Ed Bragg.

On October 4, 2009 VBBC had their opening service with 25 people in attendance. Six months later, God provided a miraculous opportunity for VBBC to purchase property.

After several months of renovating, on April 4, 2010 VBBC moved into their current facility at 2007 Beltline Road which has two buildings with a combined space of 7000 ft2 on approximately 3 acres. Since this time, God has been adding to the church on a frequent basis.
